Doekle is involved in Wetsus, centre of Excellence since 2010. He received his Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Twente in development of an MEMS acoustic particle velocity sensor, he is currently involved as a multidisciplinary scientific coordinator at Wetsus, European Center of Excellence for Sustainable Water Technology.
He coordinates projects and stakeholders of the Smart Water Grids research theme, Smart water grids – Wetsus, where research towards better asset management for drinking water is done. Material science, new sensor technologies, surface modification, data processing and ultrasonic research are key topics.
His research interests cover electronics, acoustics, optics, physics, data processing and water technology. He has a good understanding of how research can be successfully bridged toward commercial application, examples are Acquaint BV and Hulo BV, which are spin off companies originating from the research done in this group. Of course this is by far not only his credit, but also of the great team of researchers and companies involved.
Next to that he has a track record of starting up innovative companies: he is co-founder and CTO of Wetsus spin-off companies Ynovio B.V and Nautic Waterloo B.V. and co-founder of 3 other startups.
