Dr Vassiliki Boulomytis is an Associate Professor of Water Engineering with extensive experience in teaching, research, and academic leadership at the Instituto Federal de São Paulo (IFSP). Her career has been dedicated to advancing civil engineering education, water resources management, and sustainable development. At IFSP, she was the Chair of the Faculty of Civil Engineering (2020–2022), overseeing operations, curricula, scheduling, and dispute resolution. She worked to ensure that the student experience reflected modern teaching practices, technology, and evolving needs. As Associate Professor, she led the Hydraulics Laboratory and coordinated the Research Group of Engineering, Technology, Innovation & Sustainability (GETIS), fostering innovation and interdisciplinary collaboration.
Her expertise lies in water resources and sustainable development, with a focus on hydraulic and hydrology modelling, decision-making processes, and geotechnologies. She has successfully secured funding from national and international bodies to support applied research projects. Over the years, she has taught, supervised, and researched across civil engineering, environmental management, and construction technology programs, from vocational education to postgraduate levels.
With more than two decades of professional experience in the civil engineering industry, and most recently with Water Sensitive Urban Design in Australia, she has developed strong skills in time management, problem-solving under pressure, and effective communication. These abilities have been essential in building partnerships with institutions across Australia, Chile, Costa Rica, India, Japan, the Netherlands, and the USA. Her research and industry work span both rural and urban contexts, providing valuable insight into diverse stakeholder needs.
