Especialista em Engenharia Sanitária (UFC), Tratamento Anaeróbio de Efluentes (IHE/DELFT-Holanda) e Gestão Ambiental (IMC-Japão). Professora Titular do Departamento de Engenharia Civil da UFPE. Comendadora da Ordem Nacional do Mérito Científico (MCTI). Pesquisadora e membro do Comitê Assessor (CA-CA) do CNPQ. Membro da Academia Pernambucana de Engenharia (APEENG) e da Academia Pernambucana de Ciências (APC). Filiada à ABES desde1978, e a IWA desde 1986.
Professora visitante em renomadas instituições internacionais, como Imperial College London, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, Universidade do Arizona, Universidade de Bochum, Xian Jiaotong University e Universidade Nacional Autônoma do México. Coordenadora na UFPE da rede internacional SWINDON-EXCEED-DAAD, desenvolveu múltiplos projetos de cooperação com universidades da Europa, América e Ásia. Liderou programas da CAPES, CNPq e FINEP, implantando iniciativas de iniciação científica e tecnológica. Autora de mais de 300 publicações científica e orientadora de mais de 200 trabalhos acadêmicos, atua em Engenharia Ambiental, com ênfase em saneamento, reúso de água e controle da poluição, tendo participado de importantes projetos de avaliação e gestão ambiental no Brasil.
Civil Engineer (UFPE), with a Master’s degree in Hydraulics and Sanitation (EESC-USP) and a Ph.D. in Agricultural and Environmental Sciences (Wageningen University, Netherlands). She holds specializations in Sanitary Engineering (UFC), Anaerobic Treatment of Effluents (IHE Delft, Netherlands), and Environmental Management (IMC, Japan). She is a Full Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at UFPE. She has been awarded the title of Commander of the National Order of Scientific Merit (MCTI) and serves as a researcher and member of the Advisory Committee (CA-CA) of CNPq. She is also a member of the Pernambuco Academy of Engineering (APEENG) and the Pernambuco Academy of Sciences (APC). She has been affiliated with ABES since 1978 and with IWA since 1986.
She has served as a visiting professor at renowned international institutions, including Imperial College London, Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, the University of Arizona, Ruhr University Bochum, Xi’an Jiaotong University, and the National Autonomous University of Mexico. At UFPE, she coordinates the international SWINDON-EXCEED-DAAD network and has developed multiple cooperation projects with universities across Europe, the Americas, and Asia. She has led programs funded by CAPES, CNPq, and FINEP, implementing initiatives in scientific and technological research training.
She is the author of more than 300 scientific publications and has supervised over 200 academic works. Her work is focused on Environmental Engineering, with an emphasis on sanitation, water reuse, and pollution control, and she has participated in major environmental assessment and management projects in Brazil.
